With over 90 classes to choose from each week among FOUR dance rooms, there are plenty of options to fit every student's needs! Two of our dance studios use traditional wood flooring with a professional grade sub floor product called "Dura Dance." Marley Dance floors are used in our other two rooms. We offer many unique performance opportunities throughout the year to members of the WSOTA Dance Companies. A background in computer programming and business operations gives her an edge in incorporating current technology into her promotions. Cynthia has enjoyed teaching classes and workshops for over 25 years. An avid volunteer, she has contributed work to the community, including Patrons of the Hearts, Waste Not Want Not, Painting the Town OP, CBV Cares, Angels for Alison, Corks & Forks St Vincents and OP Community Theater. He has also performed with star singers and songwriters such as Josh Groban, Il Volo, ELO, Kansas, Little River Band, Styx, Alan Parsons, Bernadette Peters, Aretha Franklin, Michael W. The Wehner Weddings string quartet performed for Oprah Winfrey on the set of Lovetown USA, which aired on the OWN Network in the summer of 2012. In January of 2017, the Wehner Weddings String Trio provided the musical backdrop for a wedding that included President Barack Obama as the best man and Secretary of State John Kerry as the officiant. Mr. Wehner and his musicians are featured in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons of "Disney's Fairytale Weddings" which airs on Freeform. She studied dance and piano throughout elementary, junior high and high school, prior to earning a BS in Communications/Advertising and a Minor in Sociology from the University of North Florida in 2001. Holly worked for JTA Communications & Marketing (1999 - 2002) and Martinez Communications (2002 - 2004) before stepping into her role at WSOTA in 2004 as Director of Dance and Marketing. Holly and Kyle have three daughters, all of whom dance within the WSOTA Dance Companies. She began dancing as a student at WSOTA in 1998 and has been a dance instructor for WSOTA since 2013. A graduate of FIHS, Mrs. Lauren was a member of the FIHS Dance Team from 2009-2013 before attending St. John's River State College. She then became the coach of the Varsity Dance Team at St. Johns Country Day School from 2013-2015. Most recently, Mrs. Lauren danced as a member of the Jacksonville Armada Dance Team. She has extensive training and is certified in Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) and Alixa Flexibility and is certified in dance and technique through International Dance Teaching Standards and Dance & Gym USA. A native of Fleming Island, Ella has been dancing since the age of two. She is currently a Senior at FIHS and has accepted a generous dance scholarship for the Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts at Jacksonville University. Ella has been a part of every Dance Company at WSOTA, the highest of which is her current Senior Company. When she is not within the halls and dance rooms of WSOTA, Ella enjoys expanding her dance knowledge and technique through conventions, competitions and with the Dancelook Apprentice Program where she is an inaugural member of the program which started in 2018. The Dancelook Apprentice Program is a program designed to train and help young dancers transition into a professional career in dance led by Carlos Garland (Season 10 Top 20 of So You Think You Can Dance) and Marisa Dolan (Universal Studios). Ella has studied under such artists as Tyce Diorio, Katelyn Gaffney (Radio City Rockettes), Samantha Berger (Radio City Rockettes), Peter Sabasino, Hannah Lei Cabanilla (SYTYCD), Talia Edwards, Tyrese Parker, Kathryn McCormick (SYTYCD), Lissette Lucas, Ashley Sanchez (SYTYCD), Katee Shean, Mary Ann Lamb, Logan Hernandez (SYTYCD), Elianah Girard (SYTYCD), Sam Picart, Carlos Garland (SYTYCD) and Marisa Dolan. While in NYC for a WSOTA Company Dance Trip, Ella was able to take master classes from cast members of Broadway’s “Aladdin” and “Hamilton” along with classes hosted by the Radio City Rockettes. Another performance highlight for Ella includes performing overseas in a WSOTA Dance Company spotlight show aboard Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas. Ella has received scholarships for programs such as the Joffrey Ballet School Musical Theatre Summer Program in NYC, Dancemakers Inc. Convention and Shake the Ground Competition & Convention. She was also accepted by audition and attended the Rockettes Summer Intensive. Rob has been performing since 2003 and teaching piano/voice at WSOTA since 2009. Rob enjoys composing music for short films, documentaries, commercials and independent artists. He performs professionally throughout the state and has been featured in two separate seasons on "Disney's Fairytale Weddings" alongside Kyle Wehner and the musicians of Wehner Weddings, LLC. From 2008-2011 he toured with surfer-turned-rocker Donavon Frankenreiter, playing on stages across the U.S., as well as Brazil, Europe, Japan, and Australia. Highlights of the tours included sharing the stage with John Oates, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and opening for Dave Matthews Band. Since 2012 Pete has played with Jacksonville Trop Rock artist Jimmy Parrish & The Waves. He studied at the National School of Ballet (1965-1969) where he graduated with honors, under the direction of Alicia Alonso and other prominent teachers like Mirta Pla, Aurora Bosch and Fernando Alonso. From 1969 to 1992, Mr Gonzalez was one of the leading figures and soloist in the National Zarzuela of Cuba, the National Opera of Cuba and in the National Ballet of Cuba, where he performed in many countries such as Mexico, Panama, Brazil and Nicaragua. Mr. Gonzalez danced in the most important dancing Cuban Companies and in the most famous international performances including Swan Lake, Carmen, Nutcracker, Don Quixote and many more. From 1992 - 1996, Mr Gonzalez served as a professor in their National Ballet of Cuba, in the National Zarzuela of Cuba and the National Opera of Cuba. Upon arriving in the Unites States in 2008, Mr. Gonzalez has worked as a teacher and choreographer at schools across Northeast Florida. Mr. Gonzalez has also taught magisterial and private classes at the Dulce Anaya Ballet School. Anna has been playing for almost 40 years. She began her time at Wehner's School of the Arts as a student in 1987 and in 1993 began teaching at the studio. Anna graduated from Hillsborough Community College, Ybor City with an Associate in Arts degree in music in 1992 and continued her education at the University of North Florida graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Music Education K-12 in 1995. After nearly 25 years of teaching in the public school system and working as a clinician in local school programs, Anna changed careers and for 10 years was a sales manager for a traffic safety company. Awards include Grand National Champions at the Walt Disney World Contest of Champions, and a Star Search performance at Walt Disney World, as well as various competitions all over Florida. She has judged numerous pageants and been involved in the choreography for opening numbers for a variety of shows, pageants and plays as well as directing her studio end of the year recitals for 25 years. His clogging career spans over 30 years. He has had the honor of working closely with and befriending many of the top names in the clogging industry. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and is an alumnus of the now 28 time National Champions, the Bailey Mountain Cloggers, based out of Mars Hill University. During his tenure with Bailey Mountain, he toured the East Coast and participated in several cultural exchange programs, performing throughout Europe in 1997 and again in 2000, and helped the team earn 5 of their National Titles over the course of his time there. After college, Matt served as co-director of the Electric Rhythm Cloggers based out of Jacksonville, Florida, and helped guide them to winning two State of Florida Championships and multiple Regional accolades throughout the 2000s. During the 2010s, Matt served as team Captain of the Carolina Fusion Cloggers, a semi-professional competition clogging troupe based out of central North Carolina. He helped secure three additional National Championship honors when Fusion won Overall Traditional Team at the 2017 CCA Showdown of Champions, and overall Freestyle Team of 2018 and 2019 at the Untied Clogging Association’s World Championships. Matt is grateful to have the opportunity and privilege to teach at venues large and small - from intimate one-room workshops and master classes to conventions with hundreds of people in attendance, both regionally as well as nationally and globally. In addition to attending and teaching these workshops, Matt is also a certified competition judge in multiple competition sanctioning organizations, eager to share his knowledge and experience (and be thoroughly entertained!) to further enrich and promote competitive and recreational clogging - in both the traditional and contemporary styles - throughout the country. He has been fortunate enough to judge numerous local high school talent pageants in the greater Jacksonville area over the last ten years. Matt is incredibly proud to have worked with his amazingly talented clogging students at Dance Express in nearby Fleming Island, Florida, and has recently joined the Wehner’s School of the Arts family in 2020. She was in various musicals including CATs and The Wiz where she was a featured dancer and soloist. She continued her dance studies at Middle Tennessee State University where she primarily studied Ballet and Modern. She graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre with focus in Dance in 2013. Kimberly has taken multiple Master Classes from the cast of Wicked, A Chorus Line, Cynthia Gutierrez, Heidi Clemmens, Madia Cooper, and Erin Law. She attended Summer Intensives at Vanderbilt Dance Theatre and was a member of the Middle Tennessee State University Dance Company. She has trained in musical theatre, Martha Graham modern technique, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe and Lyrical. After Kimberly graduated, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and began teaching at Dance Express in Fleming Island in 2013. She loves to share her passion of dance with young dancers!
